A variety of lead like sheets, such as, lead plates, lead bricks, lead containers, lead glass and lead wool are used for radiation shielding. These products are manufactured by Medi-Ray™ Inc.
Medi-RayTM has developed clinical, medical and laboratory x-ray shielding products using lead casting, sheet lead and lead foil. This slide discusses x-ray shielding products manufactured by Medi-RayTM. For more information, call 877-898-3003 or fax at 914-337-4620. You can also email us at email@example.com.

In everyday life we may come across several instances where radiation is used. For example, in the medical industry x-ray imaging helps identify broken bones and perform other diagnostic tests. The radiation is useful but overexposure is a serious health risk. To avoid overexposure to radiation, radiation scattering equipment is shielded with lead.
Medi-Ray is the industry leader in the manufacture of radiation shielding products. Radiation shielding products manufactured by Medi-Ray include lead plates, lead bricks, sheet lead, lead glass, lead wool, syringe shields, x-ray shields, nuclear medicine accessories, lead castings, lead containers for shipping and many more.
Where are radiation shielding products used?
- Medical industry: x-ray equipment, thyroid equipment etc.
- In airport detection devices
- In defense industry
- In submarines
- Nuclear power industries
Why is lead used as a radiation shielding product?
- Lead is fairly inexpensive
- Can be easily bent and manipulated
- It is corrosion resistant
- Lead is extremely versatile, malleable and easy to work with
- It can be shaped in any to fit the rooms , equipment and even deep corners
- Due to its high atomic number, lead can efficiently resist harmful radiation
- Lead is highly stable metal

Radiation Protection, otherwise known as radiological protection, is the science and practice of protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of Ionizing Radiation. Ionizing radiation is used in many aspects of industry and medicine, and as a result can present significant health hazards. Such radiation causes microscopic damage to body tissue, which can lead to skin burns and radiation sickness at high exposures, as well as heightened risks of Cancer at low exposures.
Radiation protection is divided into a number of different categories, as there are many different factors to consider when it comes to protecting individuals from radiation, as well as keeping their surrounding environments radiation free.
Radiation exposure is managed by a combination of three factors, these being time, distance, and shielding. Time refers to reducing the amount of time that individuals spend exposed to radiation equipment, while still ensuring that patients receive their appropriated dosage. Distance, refers to increasing the distance between radioactive equipment, and the individuals surrounding it. Finally, shielding refers to absorbing material placed around radioactive sources, to reduce the amount of radiation to a level that is safe for humans. Types of shielding may include lead sheets in the walls surrounding an x-ray room, lead glass or screens on the viewing room for operator safety, and lead aprons for patients to wear. The effectiveness of such shields depends on shield thickness.
